Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington
Press Release 11-23-17
The VAAD placed an ad in this week’s Washington Jewish Week announcing that we decertified the Kashrus certification of Potomac 18. It is generally our policy to refrain from discussing details concerning transactions with the Vaad’s proprietors. However, in this case we feel it is important to layout the facts of this action to clear up any possible confusion.
In September 2017 the Vaad informed Potomac 18 in numerous verbal and written communications why we were seriously considering terminating our certification of Potomac 18 as a kosher establishment under our auspices. After many discussions with the proprietor, the Vaad informed Potomac 18 in writing on October 26 that we were going to remove its certification.
In order to accommodate bookings previously made the VAAD has made special arrangements to certify previously booked Potomac 18 events through December 18, 2017 only.
The Rabbinical Council takes its Kashrus responsibilities very seriously, as our community places its trust in our hands. That is why all actions taken by the Vaad regarding Kashrus certifications are taken with the utmost care to ensure that the Kosher public can always rely on the Kashrut of establishments under Capitol K certification.
