Dear Members of the Greater Washington Jewish Community:
In the wake of the recent measles outbreaks in Orthodox communities around the world and the recent exposure which has occurred in Baltimore, the Maryland Department of Health and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, in conjunction with local health providers, will provide a free MMR clinic for adults between the ages of 30 and 62. This will take place on Monday, April 22nd from 4 PM to 7 PM in the social hall of Congregation Young Israel Shomrai Emunah, located at 1132 Arcola Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902. The Vaad Harabanim, in consultation with community physicians and State and County Health Departments, feel it critically important for all members of the community to be vaccinated and thereby enhance their resistance to this disease.
Adults between the ages of 30 and 62 generally have not received 2 MMR vaccines. This group has been shown, in other communities, to serve as a component of the rapid spread of the disease. Fortunately, increased immunization efforts targeted at this group have successfully decreased its spread. Replicating the efforts taken in the Detroit area, everyone in this age group is, therefore, strongly encouraged to be immunized. For purposes of procuring vaccines, an estimate of the number of clinic participants is needed as soon as possible.

We can think of no greater act of chesed than protecting the health and wellbeing of our beloved families, friends, and community. This is especially critical now, during this Pesach season, which is characterized by frequent travel to and from communities which have suffered measles outbreaks. Please do take advantage of this free clinic. The effectiveness of this campaign for community health is contingent on mass vaccination. A strong turnout is therefore critical. We urge you to make it a priority to come and be vaccinated at the MMR clinic. You are also strongly encouraged to consult your children’s pediatrician regarding their proper vaccination schedule.
In the zechus of this mitzvah, we should be zocheh to a geulah shleima.
With Love and Respect,
The Vaad Harabanim of Greater Washington
